TECHNIQUES AND SECRETS - HOW TO CONTROL A CARD
There are many ways to control a card; here is one of the most common, clever and easy way to do it.
Here we are going to use this technique with a card trick.
Remember to practice before to present this magic card trick to the audience.
EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL
Tell a spectator to choose a card, to look at it and show it to everybody.
You hold the deck in the initial position in the left hand.
Raise the half packet with your right hand and say: “Leave your card here” (on top of the left packet).
You have not seen the card.
Put back the packet that you hold in the right hand, separating the packets with the pinky finger in the back corner of the deck.
The people will only see the deck’s front, and the break will only be visible to you.
Take the packet (the half) at the break, and turn it face up on the top.
ONLY ONE MOVEMENT
Put your right thumb under the packet on the break.
The index finger, middle finger and ring finger are on the top, so turn over the packet and put it at the front showing the card.
The picture shows the deck all ready turned. The spectator's card is on the top of the half packet that is face down.
Then showing the card as the picture shows, ask: “Is this your card?” They will say no.
Remember: The card was left in the first position on the top of the deck that is face down.
Now turn over the whole deck, leaving face up the packet that before was face down and leaving face down the packet that before was face up.
Ask: “Is this your card?” They will say no.
The spectator's card now is the first from the bottom of the packet that is face up.
Take the packet that is face up and turn it face down putting it on the other packet (that is face down).
The spectator card is on the top, but nobody can see that it is there.
Try to do this movement normally and with agility.
In this moment you have control of the card.
Control the spectator's card on top of the deck.
Now make the fan on your left hand.
Having the back of the deck facing to you.
With the right index finger go to move the card until the middle.
Then the left thumb pushes the card to rise up, slowly.
This is happening in the back of the deck, so nobody can see it.
Make movements with your right hand to make it look like the card is rising up with magic!
