Why do I need to Learn Controls & False Shuffles?
Controls and false shuffles are necessary while working with card magic tricks, because they help you mix the decks while keeping the control of a card or a stack. They should look like real shuffles.
Are False Shuffles & Control Cards Legal?
Well... in magic yes! We card magicians use false shuffles to manipulate and control cards to present a card magic trick. We use the false shuffles and control the cards for entertainment purposes ONLY -- not for gambling!
Card - Controls by the overhand shuffle
This techniques will help you to control one or many cards. In the photos, the card is marked with an X or an arrow to indicate the card and how you need to move the deck of cards or shuffle the cards.
The secret of doing the card(s) control and false shuffles well is agility.
A. From the top to the bottom:
This control / technique allow to you to control one card that is on top of the deck and put the card in the bottom. You need to move the card like you are doing a regular shuffle. Learn this card technique here.
B. From the bottom to the top:
This control / technique has the same concept that the last control, but the card to control is in the bottom of the deck and by shuffle you control the card and move it to the top. Learn this card technique here.
C. Control a stack on the top by overhand shuffle:
Some times we need to control more than one card. For example the aces, or a stack of the cards that we need to use for specific trick, etc. This control allow you to control more of one card, sometimes the half of the deck of cards. Learn this card technique here.
Card - Controls by Riffle Shuffle
As before, the controlled card has the X and arrow.
A. Control of a card on the top:
Riffle Shuffle is the most common shuffle with cards. This False Shuffle or control allow you to control the card on top of the deck. Learn this card technique here.
B. Control of a card on the bottom:
This is the same as before, but the card to control is on the bottom of the deck and for that you take more cards in your left hand. When you start the shuffle, let the first card fall on the table. Learn this card technique here.
C. Control of a stack on the top:
This type of control and false shuffle allow you to control more that one card, even half of the deck. Be careful, because if you pass one card incorrectly, you can disorganize the whole deck and the trick will not work. Learn this card technique here.

Cards - False Shuffles by Cuts
A. From the hand to the table:
This is a beautiful technique. This false cut allow you to control the card on the top of the deck. The secret of doing this false cut and it looks normal cut is agility and some misdirection. Learn this card technique here.
B. False cut with the right index:
This is the most clean false cut that you can do. It allows to you to control a card on the top. the way that you move the cards it looks like a real cut. Learn this card technique here.
You can combine the false shuffles and cut techniques for a single trick or magic card trick routine, but don't overdue. The movements needs to look the same as you are doing regular shuffles or cuts.
