Card Tricks: Flourishes

The Fan

This is a very important flourish or technique, and it is the one most commonly used by magicians.

This technique is great when asking someone from the public to pick a card.

1. Take the deck in your left hand. The index finger, middle finger, ring finger and pinky finger are under the deck. The thumb is over the top but at the bottom of the deck.

2. Put the right thumb on the left top corner edge of the deck, and move your right hand with the cards to the right, making a fan. This happens while all the left fingers are holding the deck tightly, as you can see in the photo. The right thumb slides all the cards fast and smoothly in one quick movement. This is a good technique - flourish to practice because we use it a lot.

4. This picture shows you how the index finger, middle finger, ring finger and pinky finger look in front of the cards.
